krétakör | hungary
Awarded the Masque-Prize for the best foreign performance in Canada in 2004, Budapest’s Krétakör Theatre takes its name from Brecht’s “chalk circle”: an area enclosed and designed in space where conflicts arise and decisions are made. Over the past few years, they have become one of the best known representatives of Hungarian theatre in Europe, winning numerous prizes at home and abroad. Krétakör made their UK debut as aprt of the Magyar Magic – Hungary in Focus 2004 Festival - www.magyarmagic.com - with their production of Misanthrope and The Seagull, which was one of the hits of the 2004 Belfast Festival.
The Seagull has also been invited to the 2005 Edinburgh Festival.

W – Worker’s Circus
is a startling, fresh and frank reinterpretation of Buchner’s Woyzeck and the poems of Attila Jozsef. It is a physical and darkly poetic piece of theatre of cruelty played out on a stark and beautiful platform enclosed by bars, inside which the actors strip themselves bare, emotionally and physically.
Thursday 7th July, Friday 8th July at 7.45pm
